Abstract

Digital transformation in education requires information systems to accommodate the distinctive characteristics of specialization-based education. However, general-purpose systems may not adequately support diverse learning activities, evidence, and student development pathways. This study aimed to identify functional gaps and requirements and develop a conceptual framework for a specialization-centered educational information system. The study used a qualitative case study at SMA Thursina IIBS, Malang, Indonesia, with semi-structured interviews with eight informants, focus group discussions, observations, and document analysis. Thematic analysis identified four themes: existing functional gaps; system structure requirements; student development and evidence management; and flexible, integrated functionality. Findings were consolidated into six preliminary components: Specialization Student Database, Subject Learning, Seminar and Workshop, Apprenticeship, Project Portfolio, and Certificate of Completion. These informed a framework with four functions: specialization management; student development and evidence management; flexible learning and collaboration; and integrated information and reporting. The framework provides a basis for subsequent design, implementation, and empirical evaluation.
